Delayed Perfection

So, I have been thinking a lot about this quote lately: “continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection“. As I thought about that and how it might relate to my life, I was struck with the realization that so many things that I have wanted to do have been delayed because I thought I needed to have every part and piece perfectly in place. There are so many times that I stall in until I know it is perfect.  I was encouraged by my Mastermind group over at Inspire Business Community to stop waiting for things to be perfect before I start and just be willing to make mistakes. I have always felt like mistakes are a waste of my time. Instead, I am learning that they are a part of the process. Have you ever had a dream that you didn’t know existed until you started doing it? That’s what this blog has been for me. I have wanted to write for such a long time. I actually had a blog – way back before blogs were a thing and you weren’t afraid of the things that you put on the internet going viral – or people leaving you nasty messages about what they disagreed with you about. It was mostly a journal for friends and family to keep up with us as we began our family. But, keeping up with a blog when you are adding a baby to your family every 15 months wasn’t possible for me! What if the grammar police came after me for my misuse of punctuation or lack of verb agreement? I am sure I have annoyed these sweet people even in my few short posts thus far. 🙂 My kids are now older, and although life is busy it seemed like a good time to try again. It has been much easier for me to hide behind my work – to reduce my thoughts to one line Facebook posts or captions. I am looking forward to getting to know you better, and for you to know me in a different way than just someone who loves to create things.

I have been challenged to just start. That I don’t need to wait for perfection to start something. As long as I am continuously working on improving whatever it is that I have started, that is the far better than never having started at all.

Don’t wait until the “stars align”, the “time is right”, or “Monday” to start. Can you relate? Tell me in the comments what you’s be doing if fear or the unknown weren’t holding you back. Weight Loss? College Class? Your own business? I’d love to know and cheer you on your journey!
