I have always enjoyed design, crafting, and making things beautiful. I looked up to people who did the same. In college, I took an interior design class and loved every project I was given. Pinterest wasn’t at my disposal then, and I found great joy and relaxation planning, dreaming and creating. I would cut out magazine pictures of what my home would look like someday and keep them in a manila folder. In my History Class, I used note-taking as an opportunity to create different fonts in my notebook and perfected the ones I liked as I listened. When I got married I couldn’t wait to take my design board from college and make it a reality in our first home!
I believe that we are all created to create. What that means for each of us is different. You may be a musician who can write and play beautiful music. Maybe you are a web designer who can take the ideas of others and turn their vision into a reality. You may be a housewife who whips up a delicious meal for her family night after night! Maybe you’re an architect who sees lines and angles uses them to draft up gorgeous homes for others. Regardless of our callings – we create because we were created.
We had 3 kids in two years! (I saw that eye roll!) Two baby boys and then a baby girl. Having a little girl spurred in me a desire to create that was stronger than I had experienced before. I began making baby hairbows and clippies. I opened a shop on Etsy and named it “Brown Eyed Girlies” after my little brown-eyed baby girl. For five years I made thousands of bows, headwraps, and clippies and had great success and loved doing it! Then I began to have moms ask me to make them head wraps, and accessories to match their little ones. My daughter began wearing my scarves, and headwraps. I began to see the need for my business to reflect that I not only served little girls but all women. I decided to open “Bedeckle”.
That leads me to where I am today. I have so many people ask me “what is a Bedeckle?”, “How did you come up with that name?”. Well, it was simple. It wasn’t the name I wanted. The name I wanted, “Bedecked” was taken. It means to “fancy up, embellish, to make beautiful”. So, I took the name bedecked (which was taken by a lady in Texas who bedazzles cowboy boots!) and made up the word Bedeckle and used the dictionary definition for bedecked as my tagline. There it is. That’s how the name came to be. #superdeep
For the last seven years, Bedeckle has morphed and changed. From offering accessories for you to wear to accessories for your home. Even though the items I have offered in my shop over the years have changed, my desire to create has stayed the same. I have desired to create items and pieces that would add beauty to your life.
I want the name of my business to better reflect who I am and what I enjoy doing. Hand lettering has always been my hobby and delight. From college until now – it has been how I have expressed myself in notetaking, card making, gift giving, and making special events a little more special.
So, Bedeckle will now be known as Shyla Kaye Design Co. because it’s who I am. Literally. It’s my name and my passion – design. It allows me to move forward with confidence that this next step in my journey will be the best one yet! Offering my lettering services for your special events, weddings, and your home – as well as offering more classes (in person and online) to help you in your creative journey – that is my passion!
Thanks for sticking with me through the years. And if you’re new – I can’t wait to show you what I have up my sleeve!
